This book sets out to document Sikh experiences in North America, explore the evolution of Sikh identity, highlight acts of resistance and resilience, and contribute to a broader understanding of diaspora communities. Sikhs have been part of the social fabric of North America for more than 150 years. The chapters reflect upon histories and experiences from the early twentieth century to the present day, looking at the complexity and diversity of Sikh diasporas. The contributors touch on key events that drastically impacted the Sikh narrative, such as the anti-Asian riots across the Pacific Northwest, the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case United States v. Bhagat Singh Thind of 1923, the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and the Oak Creek Gurdwara massacre in 2012. They explore topics such as the resurgence of white supremacy and Islamophobia, intellectual resistance and activism, and the Healthy, Happy, Holy Organization (3HO). The volume investigates the interconnectedness of many historical threads across boundaries and borders from numerous perspectives and approaches to touch on intersectional issues.
